From The Nerd Cave: Feb. 26, 2014

It’s probably not the best sign that I relate more to the giant, fire-breathing, radioactive dinosaur than Bryan Cranston in the new Godzilla trailer, but that’s just how my week is going. Oh, well.

LiveJournal-worthy lamenting aside, the trailer is pretty great, and it promises some other monsters to go up against the big guy in Hollywood’s latest attempt to revive the Japanese icon. I’m holding out for a Jet Jaguar cameo myself, but I’m not about to get my hopes up.

In addition to a kickass Godzilla preview that adequately washes away memories of Matthew Broderick playing with his worms, there’s more than enough nerdy stuff out there lately to momentarily distract us all from the incapacitating horrors of reality.

  • Ellen Ripley action figures are on the way, based on Sigourney Weaver’s character from Alien and Aliens. There’s no word yet on whether we’re getting Alien 3 or Alien: Resurrection versions of Ripley, but I wouldn’t put it past NECA to churn those out later on. The toymakers are clearly at war with our bank accounts. I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.
  • Girls star Adam Driver is in talks to play a villainous character in J.J. Abrams’ forthcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, Variety reports. I’m still wondering how this massive movie is going to hit its 2015 release date if it’s still in the casting phase, but that’s just me.
  • Marvel’s Netflix-exclusive  live-action TV series will film in New York City, starting with Daredevil. Other heroes set to appear in the miniseries include Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist. Rad. At this rate, we’re almost guaranteed a Howard the Duck TV series by 2020. Feathers crossed.

That’s it from me for now. Get bite-sized nuggets of The Wort Report by following me on Twitter.

'Guardians of the Galaxy' Trailer Is Full of A-Holes

Hot on the heels of a pretty fantastic Toy Fair, the geek world is still grinnin’ after Marvel Studios dropped a massive bombshell in the form of the first-ever Guardians of the Galaxy trailer on Tuesday night. If you don’t already care about Rocket Raccoon, Groot or Star-Lord, you just might if you watch this.

For those keeping track, we’re getting an awesome Guardians of the Galaxy movie long before a Warner Bros. Wonder Woman flick. Just saying.

Couple Breaks Up in the Best Way Possible

Genius. Happy Heart-Shaped Candy and Paper Goods Day!

Watch: 'The LEGO Movie' Blooper Reel

LEGO is clearly striving to cement itself as one of the most charming brands out there right now. From their expansive Star Wars product line to their incredible video games to their recent decisions to translate such properties as The Simpsons and Ghostbusters to brick form, the Denmark-based toymakers have taken to fan service in a big way over the past few years. Oh, and there’s that LEGO Movie that stars Will Arnett as Batman. You might have heard of it.

As its signature song goes, “Everything Is Awesome” when it comes to LEGO’s first theatrical foray, including this “blooper reel” featuring the main characters flubbing their scenes.

“Who wants to go into the sun with me?” I do, Batman. I do.

The 'Winter Solder' Trailer Won the Super Bowl

Even though we only got a snippet of the new Captain America: The Winter Soldier trailer during the Big Game itself — we had to go online to see the whole thing — our latest glimpse into the forthcoming exploits of Steve Rogers was a whole hell of a lot more exciting than the one-sided clash between the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos. If you’re living in the Northeast U.S. and are snowed in today, why not watch this 10 or 12 times?
