New Trials Await Cal Kestis in ‘Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’

I’m not ashamed to admit it: I have played through Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order no less than four times. Perhaps it’s because it was the first significant single-player Star Wars game in nearly a decade. Perhaps it was the strangely satisfying Souls-esque combat. Perhaps it was the characters, who were surprising new additions to the canon – particularly protagonist Cal Kestis and the villainous Second Sister. I’ve been hooked since the game’s 2019 release, and after watching the trailer – which debuted during The Game Awards – I’m itching to go for Round 5.

New enemies, allies, creatures and abilities now await Cal, who destroyed an important Jedi Holocron containing a list of Force-sensitive children at the conclusion of the last game to keep it out of the clutches of Darth Vader and his Inquisitors. But Cal’s work, it seems, is far from over.

EA’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor arrives on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC on March 17, 2023. Watch the trailer below!

‘Star Wars: The Bad Batch’ Season 2 Trailer Features Plenty of Action, Giant Crabs

Yes, the new trailer for Star Wars: The Bad Batch has plenty going for it – quipping, explosions, cool vehicles, and Wanda Sykes – but the fact that it began with Hunter and the crew being pursued by GIANT FREAKIN’ CRABS means I’ve watched it no less than five times already. What can I say? I love Star Wars and seafood.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2 drops Jan. 4 on Disney+. Watch the trailer below!

‘Wonder Woman 3’ Reportedly Not Moving Forward

Just weeks after Warner Bros. announced a shift in leadership for its DC productions – with James Gunn and Peter Safran now heading up the newly formed DC Studios – THR now reports that Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3 is officially dead.

It’s no secret that Gunn and Safran are working to lay out a cohesive strategy for DC’s upcoming film slate, and it’s also no secret that Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984 was widely perceived as a narrative misfire following the fantastic 2017 original film. So this news isn’t entirely surprising. But what now?

On Tuesday, Gadot shared an Instagram post on the anniversary of her original Wonder Woman Batman v. Superman casting announcement that she was excited to share the “next chapter” in the character’s story. The THR story coming on the heels of that post is either a bizarre coincidence or perhaps confirmation that Gadot’s Diana Prince will be part of DC’s new direction even if the franchise’s director and plans for the third installment will not.

‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ Trailer Reveals De-Aged Indy, Teases Plot

Sallah’s BACK, baby!!!

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was missing a few things that made the classic three films, well, classic, but chief among them was Indy’s pal Sallah, played impeccably by John Rhys-Davies in both Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. He joins the returning Harrison Ford in globe-trotting – and potentially time-trotting – fifth installment of the franchise, titled Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

New cast members include Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen and Antonio Banderas. James Mangold (Logan) directs the film, which is the first Indy installment without Steven Spielberg at the helm.

Given our glimpse at a de-aged Indy and, of course, the “dial” mentioned in the title, it seems as though we might be bringing time travel into the mix. Will it work? I guess only time will tell.

See an elder Indy crack his whip and perhaps a jaw or two in the first trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, arriving in theaters June 30, 2023.

The Guardians Face the Music in First 'Vol. 3' Trailer

If horrific things happen to Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, I will not be OK.

Marvel Studios dropped the first official trailer for the third and final Guardians of the Galaxy film – not counting the just-released (and hilarious) holiday special on Disney+ - and it looks like James Gunn is pulling out all the stops for the final film in the trilogy. Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) appears, as does Rocket’s soulmate Lylla and various shots of anguish set to “In the Meantime” by Spacehog. Oh, and we also see Drax totally destroy an alien child with a rubber ball.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 lands in theaters May 5, 2023. Watch the trailer below!

Nintendo Drops Second ‘Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Trailer

HERE WE GOOOOOOOOO!!! … toward unwarranted anger about a children’s movie.

In a special streaming event on Tuesday, Nintendo unveiled its second trailer for Illumination’s forthcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie, due to arrive in theaters in April.

The trailer features a lot of what you’d expect from a second trailer following our first look at the film back in October. We get more of Anya Taylor-Joy’s Princess Peach, Jack Black’s Bowser, Charlie Day’s Luigi, plus our first glimpse at the film’s version of Donkey Kong (voiced by Seth Rogen in some of the most inspired voice casting of all time).

But there’s surely much to be said – and not much of it positive, I bet – about Chris Pratt’s Mario, which is a more grounded take on the character when compared to the iconic voice work of Charles Martinet, who has voiced the character in video games since 1996’s Super Mario 64. you can call me a shill, an apologist or maybe just a moron, but I can’t bring myself to channel the frothing anger some people have leveled at Pratt and Illumination for this portrayal. Heck, I even chuckled at Pratt’s “let’s-a go” delivery in the trailer. Maybe I’m easily amused in my old age, or maybe I’m really happy that we’re getting a Mario movie that features kart racing, nods to Super Mario Galaxy and unexpected mustache torture. It’s the little things, fam.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie hits theaters on April 7, 2023. Watch the trailer below!

James Gunn Wins Tuesday with ‘Guardians’ Holiday Special Trailer and Huge DC News

James Gunn has brought me much joy in my life. Both Guardians of the Galaxy films are treasured in my household – they’re the reason my wife and I chose “Hooked on a Feeling” as our wedding song – and I thoroughly enjoyed his DC projects, The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. In fact, I made genuine attempts to learn the dance from the Peacemaker opening, and those would-be TikTok videos will forever remain in my Drafts.

But the world wasn’t exactly sure what to think of Gunn just a few years ago. He was fired by Marvel Studios when some unfortunate older tweets were resurfaced and circulated in the summer of 2018. The since-deleted posts were intentionally “edgy” and, as such, were not only in bad taste at the time but aged horrifically.

Gunn’s Marvel ousting resulted in him being brought into the DC fold for the aforementioned Suicide Squad sequel/reboot, which made sense given Gunn’s affinity for heroic-but-not-always-morally-sound misfits. Additionally, though, Gunn and Marvel’s eventual reconciliation resulted in a third Guardians film and a holiday special. Gunn also continued to build on John Cena’s Peacemaker character with an outstanding HBO Max series. Rarely has a creator had his foot planted in both the MCU and DCEU, but Gunn has managed to do it.

That all leads us to today, Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022, when Marvel Studios dropped an amazing trailer for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special that gives us an aged-up (and buff?) Groot, a holiday adventure on Earth and “The Legendary” Kevin Bacon. While fans reveled in Drax and Mantis breaking into the Footloose star’s home as part of a kidnapping “Christmas present,” DC had a reveal of their own, as broken by The Hollywood Reporter: Gunn will serve as co-CEO of DC Studios alongside producer Peter Safran. They’ll be replacing former DC Films head Walter Hamada, who left the studio last week. Whether or not that has something to do with the chilly critical reception to Black Adam is anyone’s guess.

Given Gunn’s comedic sensibilities, I can imagine that him heading up creative for DC Studios has grimdark-favorable Zack Snyder fans foaming at the mouth (I’m sure there’s already a Twitter petition out there calling for his removal). And yet, on the heels of Henry Cavill formally announcing that he’s back as Superman with more projects to come, perhaps Gunn will be the person to bring DC’s film universe into the light … and keep it there.

Speaking of light, check out the trailer for Marvel Studios’ The Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special below!

New ‘Wakanda Forever’ Trailer Reveals First Look at New Black Panther

Following the tragic death of actor Chadwick Boseman, there has been rampant speculation as to how Marvel Studios will handle the wildly popular Black Panther character moving forward. A King T’Challa recast? A new hero assuming the mantle? A resurrected or alternate universe Killmonger becoming the new Black Panther?

Although the new trailer for Ryan Coogler’s anticipated Black Panther sequel Wakanda Forever doesn’t truly answer any questions, it does give fans their first look at who will be donning the Black Panther suit during at least one point in the film – and it’s definitely a woman.

One might presume that it’s Shuri (Letitia Wright) picking up where her big brother left off, but we won’t have a definite answer until the film arrives in theaters Nov. 11. But we do know based on what we see in the trailer that there will be INTENSE conflict between Wakanda’s Queen Ramonda and the Atlantean ruler Namor (Tenoch Huerta). We’re also introduced to Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), who we see suited up and taking flight in her Ironheart suit for the first time ever.

The trailer aims to get us to buy tickets to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – they’re now available – and honestly, after seeing what this film has in store, how could you not?!

Ryan Reynolds Confirms ‘Deadpool 3’ Will Feature Hugh Jackman as Wolverine

Well. Didn’t see this coming.

In a social media post, Ryan Reynolds laments missing D23 this year – where Marvel Studios unveiled a treasure trove of upcoming projects – but explains that he’s working very hard on the third Deadpool film, which will be The Merc with a Mouth’s first film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Reynolds then confirms that all this hard work has yielded … not much. Although does have one idea, revealed via an “impromptu” question to Hugh Jackman, who just so happens to be walking in the background at the time of recording.

“Hey Hugh, you want to play Wolverine one more time?”

“Yeah, sure, Ryan.”

So there Hugh have it: Deadpool 3 – which will indeed be part of the MCU – will feature Jackman’s return to the Wolverine character for the first time since James Mangold’s phenomenal Logan in 2017. We’ve also got a release date for the film: September 6, 2024.

The first Deadpool remains one of my favorite superhero films, and although its first sequel isn’t quite as good as its predecessor – the jokes simply don’t land as hard, in my opinion – I feel as though Deadpool has a lot of life in it as a franchise. Get it? Because ... dead ... nevermind.

‘Thunderbolts’ Movie Roster Confirmed at D23

Thunder … THUNder … THUNDER … THUNDERBOLTS! HOOOOOOO!

Wait, sorry. Wrong IP.

As an apparent response to all the knuckleheads saying that Marvel Studios wasn’t building up to anything in Phase Four, the studio revealed the lineup for its 2024 Thunderbolts movie during its D23 presentation. Thunderbolts is based on Marvel’s team of supervillains-turned-good, so it stands to reason that the lineup is full of reformed baddies.

Here’s the lineup as we now know it:

  • Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh)
  • Winter Soldier/James “Bucky” Barnes (Sebastian Stan)
  • John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell)
  • Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour)
  • Valentina Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus)
  • Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko)
  • Ava Starr/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen)

I would absolutely LOVE to say that Yelena is the new Black Widow, but I don’t think we’re there yet narratively.

Marvel Studios’ Phase Five film Thunderbolts – directed by Jake Schreier – is set for theatrical release on July 26, 2024.

Marvel Studios’ ‘Secret Invasion’ Is Upon Us

Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury has his work cut out for him in Marvel Studios’ 2023 Disney+ limited series Secret Invasion, which will be part of the fifth “phase” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although it clearly involves Skrulls – perennial Marvel Comics villains who are apparent Earth allies in the films – it remains to be seen whether this series will closely adhere to the paranoia-fueled 2008-2009 comic book storyline.

But based on the debut trailer revealed at D23, we do know that the cast for the series is pretty fantastic! Joining Jackson are MCU vets Cobie Smulders, Ben Mendelsohn, Martin Freeman and War Machine himself, THE Don Cheadle. The series also introduces Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones, Solo: A Star Wars Story) to the MCU, along with Kingsley Ben-Adir (One Night in Miami …).

Spy thrills and shape-shifting aliens await! Watch the official trailer for Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion below.

‘The Mandalorian’ Season Three Trailer Drops During D23

The anticipated third season of The Mandalorian is still relatively far, far away – it’s expected to premiere on Disney+ early next year – but Disney and Lucasfilm gave Star Wars fans their first real look at what awaits Din Djarin and the still-immensely-merchandisable Grogu next time around with a Season Three teaser trailer at D23.

But wait … is Din even a Mandalorian anymore? That’s just one of the plot points raised in the 1:50 teaser. After The Armorer learned that Din had removed his helmet in front of others in prior seasons during, she decreed during an intense confrontation in The Book of Boba Fett that he is no longer part of the culture. However, as Bo-Katan Kryze has pointed out, the helmets-on sect are extremists and do not reflect the culture as a whole. Identity and redemption will be at the center of this next set of Mandalorian adventures, as Din must venture to Mandalore to atone for his cultural transgressions. And he’ll bring his battle-won Darksaber with him – a weapon that makes him the rightful ruler of Mandalore until Bo-Katan can lay claim to it by defeating Din in combat.

Intrigue surely awaits! Watch The Mandalorian’s Season Three teaser trailer below!

On ‘She-Hulk,’ ‘The Rings of Power’ and the Toxicity of Modern Fandom

“the MCU was already finished but now it's officially dead”

“seeing she-hulk twerk just might be the worst thing i have ever seen in a minute”

“with three episodes, I feel like it’s safe to say She-Hulk is BAD”

These are tweets from actual, human, and presumably adult people who are ABSOLUTELY LOSING THEIR MINDS over the recent episode of Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk on Disney+. In the B-story of the episode, attorney Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany) gets involved in a court case involving a former colleague and a Megan Thee Stallion “impersonator” (actually a New Asgardian light elf in disguise, but we don’t need to get into all that). The real Megan makes a cameo appearance, the episode ends in a brief scuffle with The Wrecking Crew, credits roll.

Then there’s a mid-credits scene. THE mid-credits scene. The light-hearted stinger that has passionate MCU “fans” frothing at the mouth in the worst ways possible.

In it, a hulked-up Jennifer signs Megan as a client and the two twerk to “Body.” Booties are popped, fun is had, and the MCU breathes its last breath … or that’s what some (and overwhelmingly male) YouTubers and bad-faith Tweeters would have you believe.

Now, I will go on record and state that I don’t necessarily love everything that Marvel Studios has done in terms of their Disney+ Originals, and I’m of the mind that I’d rather have fewer quality stories as opposed to the absolute glut of content we’ve been getting. But as a comic book reader, I also don’t care for every title that Marvel title that comes out. And I daresay there are few who do. But you pick and choose your favorites characters and stories, you drop titles that no longer interest you, and – pay attention to this important part – you IGNORE THE STUFF YOU DON’T LIKE.

But in a digital media economy fueled by impressions, views and subscribers, the irate contrarian is king. Why would anyone simply come to terms with the fact that She-Hulk isn’t for them when there is attention (and revenue) to be gained? Fury is a cottage industry, and these grifters are entrepreneurs.

And that anger is evidently contagious and passed down to the followers of these petulance peddlers. Twitter accounts with under 50 followers are among the fastest to label new shows as “awful,” with “bad writing,” yet they simply cannot stop talking about the things they can’t stand (perhaps in an effort to gain a furious following themselves). And the fact that most of these accounts – both big and small – seem to harp on issues of “wokeness” and “SJW propaganda” tells you all you need to know about what kinds of people they are.

Star Wars and Marvel have suffered the brunt of this toxic behavior for the past few years (DC has been a close third) but The Lord of The Rings is the latest target with the release of the Prime Video series The Rings of Power, which features people of color in Middle-Earth and – shocker of shockers – features Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and other female characters in prominent roles. Tolkien “purists” are up in arms at what is an apparent affront to J.R.R. Tolkien’s writing and is something we should all be very, very angry about as well. As someone who has read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings multiple times throughout my lifetime dating back to elementary school, I didn’t realize that I wasn’t a “true fan,” because I’m actually enjoying the show.

In fact, I’ve been a massive fan of The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Marvel for more than three decades, and I’m pretty happy with the fact that we’re getting new stories in these universes – even if some of them don’t necessarily land with me. Maybe I’m just a shill. Or maybe – and hear me out on this – it’s healthier to find enjoyment in these things than to look for reasons to fly off the handle online. If your chief concerns in life are that She-Hulk twerks, there are Black elves in Middle-Earth or that there are powerful women and LGBTQ+ people in a galaxy far, far, away, then it might be time to log off and get better acquainted with the world and the diverse, wonderful people who live in it. And maybe learn to twerk a bit yourself. It might make you feel better.

‘The Batman’ Spinoff Series Focused on The Penguin Headed to HBO Max

If you’re like me, you loved Colin Farrell’s scenery-chomping performance as Oswald “Ozzie” Cobblepot in The Batman and wouldn’t be opposed to watching several more hours of this iteration of The Penguin. Fortunately, HBO Max has us covered.

The streaming service announced today that the ambitious avian crime boss will be returning in a special Max Originals series. It will be executive produced by The Batman director Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, Farrell, Daniel Pipski, Adam Kassan and Lauren LeFranc, who will be the showrunner.

My favorite version of The Penguin will always be Danny DeVito’s ooze-spewing, fish-slurping, sewer mutant version from Tim Burton’s Batman Returns. He’s not at all like the DC comic book character, but he just checks all the boxes for me, personally. But Farrell – enhanced by some mind-blowing makeup work – completely transformed for this role and delivered a version that was just as slimy as DeVito’s … albeit mostly figuratively this time around.

For more on this story, head over to The Hollywood Reporter.

The 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' Teaser Trailer Is Here!

Don’t say it. Don’t say it. Don’t say it. Don’t say it. Aw, hell. How can I not?

HELLO THERE!

The teaser trailer for the Disney+ limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi is here, and it’s something else. Ewan McGregor looks and sounds fantastic as a slightly-more-weathered-than-we-last-saw-him Obi-Wan, and based on the shots we see in the trailer, we’re getting Inquisitors, child Luke Skywalker, lightsaber action and – mercifully – other planets besides Tatooine.

Following up on The Book of Boba Fett, which had some challenging pacing but an ultimately satisfying finale, Obi-Wan Kenobi looks like a well-crafted love letter both to the character and this key point in the Star Wars timeline between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. With Deborah Chow – who directed fantastic episodes of The Mandalorian – at the helm, it seems that we’re about to take our first steps into a larger world. Or at least a fun, new Star Wars series.

Watch the trailer below! Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Disney+ Wednesday, May 25.

‘The Batman’ Review & Live-Action Ranking

\Me and The Bat? We go back a ways.

The Kenner Batman from the Super Powers Collection was one of the first action figures I ever owned. 1992’s Batman Returns was the first PG-13 movie I saw in theaters. Batman: The Animated Series remains high on my list of greatest TV shows of all time, whether animated or otherwise. Hell, I’ve been Batman on Halloween more than any other character. Even though I tend to favor the Marvel side of things on the superhero front these days, The Caped Crusader is and always will be close to my heart.

So, yeah, I was hyped for Matt Reeves’ The Batman, simply because it’s, well, more Batman. Did we need a darker, grittier take on a character that’s only gotten darker and grittier on-screen since Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy? Nah, probably not. Personally, I’d be down for some Batman: The Brave & The Bold-style surrealism when the next reboot inevitably rolls around, but I digress.

Misgivings about yet another “realistic” take on the Batman mythos aside, I thoroughly enjoyed The Batman which, for nearly three tension-filled hours, offers a surprisingly fresh take on The Dark Knight and his rogues gallery.

The Batman is dark. Really dark. This film is closer to Se7en or Silence of the Lambs than it is to a typical superhero movie, thanks in large part to a genuinely unsettling Riddler played by the creepy-when-he’s-not-overdoing-it Paul Dano. Fortunately for Gotham City, The Batman is on the case … and he’s not alone. Robert Pattinson plays a tired, strung-out Bruce Wayne who hasn’t gotten the hang of the whole nocturnal vigilante quite yet, and he’s joined by Zoë Kravitz’s phenomenal Selina Kyle. Pattinson and Kravitz are a lot of fun to watch, and give us one of the best superhero pseudo-romances in recent memory. Kravitz shines even brighter than Pattinson – she deserves her own spin-off and soon – but anyone doubting whether the Twilight alum is worthy to wear the cowl will likely be silenced fairly early in the film.

Unlike many other on-screen adaptations of The Caped Crusader, The Batman spends the bulk of its screentime showcasing the crimefighter as The World’s Greatest Detective. He’s investigating crime scenes alongside Lieutenant Jim Gordon (the incredibly game Jeffrey Wright), he’s analyzing The Riddler’s labyrinthine clues and he’s chasing down and interrogating Gotham scum (and throwing hands if the conversation demands it). It’s satisfying seeing a young, inexperienced Batman working to figure things out – both in his own life and the eerie Riddler case – and the story that pulls from DC Comics source material like The Long Halloween, Hush and even Zero Year gives Bats plenty to contend with.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that Colin Farrell’s Penguin (“Ozzie” to some) is a pure delight, both in terms of performance and practical makeup. Calling Farrell’s Penguin a transformation would be an understatement, and I hope we see more of him in the sequel.

Speaking of the sequel, there’s a scene tacked onto the end of the film in which a future villain makes a brief appearance. Although it wouldn’t quite be a Batman series without this character, I don’t think we needed to see or hear them yet.

There have been a lot of live-action Batman films (counting Batman v Superman in this case but excluding the team-up Justice League film), so how does The Batman stack up? Here’s my new live-action Batman movie ranking to make you want to either nod approvingly or chuck a Batarang at my head.

  1. Batman Returns
  2. The Dark Knight
  3. Batman (1989)
  4. Batman Begins
  5. The Batman
  6. Batman Forever
  7. Batman (1966)
  8. The Dark Knight Rises
  9. Batman & Robin
  10. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

How Did Electro Show Up in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’? (SPOILERS WITHIN)

IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME, STOP READING!!!

Spider-Man: No Way Home is among the most exhilarating, satisfying and emotionally exhausting films I have ever experienced. The highs are incredibly high in Spidey’s eighth live-action solo outing, which not only elevates the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Peter Parker (Tom Holland’s best MCU performance to date), but also wraps a bow around 20 years of The Wall-Crawler on the silver screen.

But no film is perfect, especially one as ambitious as this one. Director Jon Watts and writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers spun a tale that brings different cinematic universes together in a bombastically satisfying way, but there’s one detail that continues to captivate and confuse moviegoers, sparking much debate on social media.

Here’s a refresher. To undo Mysterio’s Far from Home revelation that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, our hero enlists the aid of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to make the world forget The Web-Slinger’s identity. Peter tries to change the parameters of the spell a few times during its casting, drawing people who know Peter’s identity from other universes into his. Prior Sony Spidey villains Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina), Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), The Lizard (Rhys Ifans) and Electro (Jamie Foxx) against their will, united in the fact that they all know Peter Parker is Spider-Man (albeit versions played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy and the Marc Webb Amazing Spider-Man films, respectively).

But there’s just one problem: Electro never knew Peter Parker was Spider-Man.

This issue has been on my mind since a friend brought it to my attention a mere two days after the film’s release, and based on the collective complaining of the internet, I’m not alone. But there are several explanations for the apparent inconsistency – two being that we’re overthinking it and that any way to get Foxx back to knock it out of the park as Electro is worth it whether or not it really makes sense.

Rational thinking aside, though, let’s dive into three theories as to how Electro could have known Spidey’s identity, even though he had never seen The Wall-Crawler with his mask off (as evidenced via dialog near the end of the film) or heard his full name.

FIRST-NAME BASIS
Near the conclusion of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, moments before Spidey defeats Electro, Gwen calls our hero “Peter” out loud as they are devising a plan to defeat the super-charged villain. The exact rules for Doctor Strange’s spell aren’t exactly clear, and he himself states that the Multiverse is still something no one fully understands. Assuming Electro heard Gwen, was that knowledge enough to cross over?

IDENTITY THEFT
Moments before his apparent “death,” Electro was absorbing an immense amount of data from the grid, which would presumably give him access to all kinds of information stored on the internet and digital devices. Could Electro have perhaps gained access to text messages, Oscorp files or other encrypted information that would grant him knowledge of who his “best friend” Spidey truly is?

VARIANT EDITION
The Multiverse is host to a seemingly limitless number of realities, many of which could be like ones we’ve seen but with slight differences. What if this Electro is from an adjacent reality from the one we witnessed in The Amazing Spider-Man 2?

In any event, until we get an official answer from the director, writers or Sony itself, theories will continue to abound. Until then, I guess I’ll keep crawling up the walls … metaphorically, of course.
