If you’re like me, you loved Colin Farrell’s scenery-chomping performance as Oswald “Ozzie” Cobblepot in The Batman and wouldn’t be opposed to watching several more hours of this iteration of The Penguin. Fortunately, HBO Max has us covered.
The streaming service announced today that the ambitious avian crime boss will be returning in a special Max Originals series. It will be executive
produced by The Batman director Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, Farrell,
Daniel Pipski, Adam Kassan and Lauren LeFranc, who will be the showrunner.
My favorite version of The Penguin will always be Danny
DeVito’s ooze-spewing, fish-slurping, sewer mutant version from Tim Burton’s Batman
Returns. He’s not at all like the DC comic book character, but he just checks
all the boxes for me, personally. But Farrell – enhanced by some mind-blowing
makeup work – completely transformed for this role and delivered a version that
was just as slimy as DeVito’s … albeit mostly figuratively this time around.
