The anticipated third season of The Mandalorian is
still relatively far, far away – it’s expected to premiere on Disney+ early next year – but Disney
and Lucasfilm gave Star Wars fans their first real look at what awaits
Din Djarin and the still-immensely-merchandisable Grogu next time around with a
Season Three teaser trailer at D23.
But wait … is Din even a Mandalorian anymore? That’s just
one of the plot points raised in the 1:50 teaser. After The Armorer
learned that Din had removed his helmet in front of others in prior seasons
during, she decreed during an intense confrontation in The Book of Boba Fett
that he is no longer part of the culture. However, as Bo-Katan Kryze has
pointed out, the helmets-on sect are extremists and do not reflect the culture
as a whole. Identity and redemption will be at the center of this next set of Mandalorian
adventures, as Din must venture to Mandalore to atone for his cultural transgressions.
And he’ll bring his battle-won Darksaber with him – a weapon that makes him the
rightful ruler of Mandalore until Bo-Katan can lay claim to it by defeating Din
in combat.
