Frank Miller Returns to Batman for 'The Dark Knight III: The Master Race'

DC Comics has confirmed that writer/artist Frank Miller will be returning to the Batman mythos for the third installment in his Dark Knight trilogy, The Dark Knight III: The Master Race. Joining Miller will be acclaimed writer Brian Azzarello (100 Bullets, Joker), and the eight-issue series will begin this fall, with two issues releasing each month.

"Batman remains my favorite comic book hero and a sequel to Dark Knight is going to be daunting," said Miller in an official statement, "but we’ll do our best."

The last installment in this trilogy was The Dark Knight Strikes Again, which received mostly negative reviews when it began publication in 2001. I honestly can't say I've enjoyed much of Miller's work since that point, but perhaps this sequel will represent a return to form for the man who changed the comic book industry in the 1980s. New 'Sin City' Trailer Full of Neo-Noir Goodness

If you weren’t feeling old this week, wrap your head around this: Sin City was released nine years ago. Since then, we’ve gotten an entire Christopher Nolan Dark Knight trilogy, three Spider-Man films, four X-Men flicks and nine movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So yeah, comic book movies have come a long way since Robert Rodriguez’s adaptation of the iconic Frank Miller comic book series.

The anticipated Sin City sequel, A Dame to Kill for, hits U.S. theaters August 22, and the new trailer for the hard-boiled anthology film shows that Rodriguez and Miller haven’t lost their mutual lust for guns, girls, explosions and grit. Lots of grit.

The all-star cast includes such returning Sin City stars as Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Powers Boothe, Jessica Alba and Rosario Dawson, and brings such luminaries as Eva Green, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Josh Brolin — Thanos himself — into the monochromatic fold.
