You knew it was coming. In an interview with Access Hollywood, Star Wars mastermind George Lucas revealed that the 3D technology James Cameron used to bring Avatar to life has inspired him to finally take his galaxy far, far away into the third dimension.[“I’m] happy it’s so successful, and worked very well in 3D,” Lucas said of Avatar at the HBO Golden Globes party on January 17. “Haven’t been a big fan of 3D, but that movie definitely improves in [the field of] 3D.”
He continued, “We’ve been looking for years and years and years of trying to take Star Wars and put it in 3D. But [the] technology hasn’t been there. We’ve been struggling with it, but I think this will be a new impetus to make that happen.”
Keep your inner cynic in check, fellow fanboys. This is good news.
