Oh Cap, USO Crazy!

At some point in Marvel Studios’ Captain America: The First Avenger, Steve Rogers wears a ridiculous(ly awesome) version of his costume to entertain the troops as part of the USO. It’s a nod to the character’s iconic comic book appearance, and a low-res shot of Chris Evans in the getup has been making the rounds online. I stumbled across it on Topless Robot and reposted it here:

As goofy as the outfit looks, this wink to the fans offers some reassurance that director Joe Johnston and his team are approaching the World War II-era Marvel mythos with the right pulp sensibilities. Captain America hits theaters on July 22.

Chris Evans: Captain America Gets an ‘Awesome’ New Look in ‘The Avengers’

This was probably expected, but Captain America star Chris Evans revealed in an MTV News interview that the character will be getting an entirely new look when he is thawed out to team up with Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and other Marvel Comics luminaries in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, which hits screens next summer.

“[It’s a] new costume,” Evans told MTV of Cap’s modern garb, which promises to be a departure from the World War II-era look he’ll be sporting in his film debut this summer. “Yeah, it’s awesome. It’s really cool.”

The Avengers
started filming this week in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Check out video of MTV’s sit-down with Evans below.

New 'Captain America' Trailer Wins the Internet

Have you seen the new trailer for Marvel Studios’ Captain America: The First Avenger? Well, yeah, you probably have. No self-respecting nerd could have possibly avoided it this week, and since all card-carrying Wortmaniacs worth their longboxes are prone to trailer dissection, I’m convinced you’ve all seen it more than once.

Since I don’t believe anyone could possibly have too much of a good thing, here’s the trailer once again. Initially, I was worried about Steve Rogers’ transition to the screen, but based on this footage, director Joe Johnston seems to have the right idea.

Captain America: The First Avenger—starring Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving and Tommy Lee Jones—hits theaters on July 22.

‘Entertainment Weekly’ Offers First Look at Chris Evans as Captain America

The cover of the Nov. 5 issue of Entertainment Weekly gives fans their first up-close and official look at Chris Evans as Steve Rogers in Marvel Studios’ Captain America: The First Avenger. The issue’s six-page spread on the anticipated 2011 film features a few more more never-before-seen photos of Evans as Cap in addition to a glimpse of Hugo Weaving as the villainous (pre-Red Skull) Johann Schmidt.

With his chiseled jaw and all-American haircut, the former Johnny Storm certainly looks like Cap to me, and I like that the design is a real-world revision of Cap’s comic book garb that doesn’t abandon its most recognizable elements, namely the red, white and blue color scheme, the stripes on his torso and the star on his chest. And let us not forget his legendary shield, which remains as iconic in live-action as it is on the printed page.

Bravo, Marvel.

Chris Evans Confirmed for Captain America

Actor Chris Evans—Johnny Storm from the Fantastic Four flicks—has accepted the role of Steve Rogers/Captain America in Marvel Studios’ The First Avenger: Captain America, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film, directed by Joe Johnston, is scheduled for release on July 22, 2011.

Evans was one of the few bright spots in Tim Story’s otherwise mediocre Fantastic Four movies, and his more serious work in films such as Danny Boyle’s Sunshine proves that he has the acting chops and screen presence for this presumably demanding role. Evans’ deal with the studio reportedly comes with an option for nine films, including two Captain America sequels, three Avengers ensemble films and as many as three appearances in other Marvel projects.
